BOWFIRE | November 4, 2007

From the dramatic opening of the curtain until the all-too-soon grand finale 90 minutes later, you’ll find yourself amazed at the performance unfolding before your very eyes … and ears.

“symphony” found to be communicable

There is an altogether unexpected amount of musical talent in local South East Michigan symphony orchestras. Much of it is of professional caliber even if the orchestras are not as large as, say, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. There is a more casual atmosphere at the local symphonies, and you can often engage the performers in [...]

When I began blogging, I had several ideas as to what I wanted my blog to be. I’ve learned that ’several ideas’ are far too many.

I don’t feel as if I’ve been doing you, my reader, justice.

I’m going to narrow my focus somewhat. I’m going to combine my blogs (5, technically speaking) into just three. I’m going to drop the tech blog and the beliefs blog, rolling their occasional posts into this blog. This blog, in turn, will become an extension from a static website. The existing links will work until further notice.

So:
| –> photo gallery
| –> e-commerce catalog (my art)
Static website | –> general blog (here, will include the tech and beliefs blogs)
| –> Michigan blog ( soon to get its own URL)
| –> organic gardening (stays where it is for the moment)

With plenty of links for hopping between them. (Of course!)

I am going to drop most of the advertising from the general interest blog. I’ll leave the adv. for my ISP. I think that they’ve given me good value and I’m confident that they’ll do the same for you. And I might continue with display ads “below the crease” if I can find some that pay better than adsense. I’m not satisfied with my income level from adsense. If I was counting on it for the groceries, I’d have died months ago.

The Michigan blog will get a reasonable level of advertising. I will certainly be looking for ads from Michigan-based family-oriented tourist destinations, sports outfitters, hospitality providers and car rental companies.

I do not consider a go-go bar a ‘family-oriented tourist destination’.

So … I’m off to Toledo for a weekend. I’ll see you when I get back.

Bill-enhanced Just wanted to let you know that I finally put together a list of Michigan Symphonic Orchestras. You’ll find the link in the menu bar above.

I probably tossed in a few errors and missed a hundred worthy candidates.

When you spot the errors, whether of omission or commission, give a shout to “bill at nmwoodworks dot com” and I’ll get them fixed.

In fact, the person who suggests the most new (verifiable) listings by July 15th, 2008 will get a free copy of the Bowfire DVD. I have it and it’s absolutely mind-boggling!

Bowfire DVD is a winner

Bowfire, which I have written about here before, has released a DVD of a ‘made for TV’ performance in Kitchener, Ontario’s “Centre in the Square” priced at about $30 and it is worth every dime.

The (mostly) string troupe puts on an electrifying live performance from first curtain until last. I most recently (01-15-2008) saw them at the Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, FL. (west side of Tampa Bay). Their incredible performance was ably captured by the video crew in Kitchener and makes for a great excuse to gather friends around for some snacks and amazement. Orchestras Wanted

Live Music Comments (0)

Quite frankly, it is proving difficult to locate all the orchestras in Michigan … there doesn’t seem to be any sort of central repository … even Google quickly peters out because not every orchestra has a web site.

So, if you know of an orchestra anywhere in Michigan, please drop me a line. I am especially looking for performance schedules and ticket information to start.

Also … I want to thank Justin Locke for his prescience!

Although my intention is to specialize in this single state, his list is a good start … and, if nothing else, quite a bit more than I had before!
