My wife and I will be attending the performance of Bowfire at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center in Dearborn, MI in a few hours. Stay tuned for a review on Tuesday.

“symphony” found to be communicable

Uncategorized

There is an altogether unexpected amount of musical talent in local South East Michigan symphony orchestras. Much of it is of professional caliber even if the orchestras are not as large as, say, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. There is a more casual atmosphere at the local symphonies, and you can often engage the performers in conversation during the intermissions. This is a very different, far more intimate, experience than attending a larger performance; just as attending a performance of “A Midsummers’ Nights Dream” ‘in the round’ in the old playhouse of The Attic Theater is an altogether different experience from sitting in “row 63, seat f” and watching through binoculars is.

In time, we’ll also take you to some good local venues for live performances of plays. But for now, on to theĀ music!

This series begins with these three orchestras and their respective venues:

  1. Dearborn Symphony Orchestra
  2. Southern Great Lakes Symphony Orchestra
  3. Livonia Symphony Orchestra

And we’ll also be tossing in one free event that just makes our summer … the Jazz Festival held at Schoolcraft College on the third Sunday of each July for the past 13 years.
