A note about the quotes A note about the quotes

There are about 90 800 1,000 of them now. Some of them come from atheists and others with ‘unclean hands and dubious parentage’.

There’s a reason for this.

Often times a quote such as this: “The trouble with the rat race is that even if you win, you’re still a rat.” expresses a Biblical truth in readily understandable terms. The equivalent scriptures pertaining to material possessions, ambition, perspective, love for others, etc. would run on for pages simply to quote and entire books to cover their separate apologetics.

Most people just seem to ‘get’ humor. Its often times wry take on serious matters is readily grasped because it fits the mood of the era … it requires no expensive meditation and little or no thought. (Meditation is expensive to the extent that it uses time. While meditation has considerable value, it often demands a resource we simply do not have … unfettered time.)

Oh, BTW, the example quote came from former Detroiter (Cass Tech, 1957) Lily Tomlin, comedienne, lesbian, actress. It is included here because it refers to a lesson in the same Bible that also clearly condemns her sexual behavior. BTW, as the linked Wikipedia article shows, she ignored her own advice.
Or did she fulfill it?

How to fix a security vulnerability in Ubuntu How to fix a security vulnerability in Ubuntu

One of the things I most appreciate about Ubuntu Linux is the (almost) daily security update. If there is a security update for ANY of the software installed on my computer, the Ubuntu project gets it to me immediately … not months later when I’ve already been bitten by an exploit. Domain switcheroo Domain switcheroo

Just thought I’d give my loyal readers (Hi, Mom!) a ‘heads up’ that I received a solicitation to switch my DNS services from a company calling itself “Domain Renewal Group” today. Keep an eye out for an offer coming to your mail box soon! Click here to read on, my friend.

Changes ’round here Changes ’round here

Just a short note to keep you posted about some incremental progress I’ve been making with getting the RV system into your hands. Today I visited my credit card processor, Authorize.net, and got another copy of the verification seal code so that I could post it here.

I should be getting some good photos of the RV System in the coming week. Behind the scenes I’ll get the e-commerce stuff lines up and then, once the photos are posted and linked to, the doors will open for business.

Ad test Ad test

I’m still playing around with ScribeFire ads but having no success getting them to display. In this post I’ve placed a SF adv., an AdSense ad. and an Amazon affiliate ad. So far, I haven’t been able to figure out how to get the SF ads. to actually appear. I’m beginning to think it is a ‘not quite ready for prime time’ product. Ah, well, the cost to obtain the ad is a trivial expenditure of my time.

But I’m not going to remain patient with this indefinitely.

Everything I am reading about ads says that you need to do a lot of testing with them to establish which ones work best. That’s not where I am stuck at: I’m stuck trying to get them to work at all.

Encryption, please Encryption, please

I want to begin using encryption in my e-mails for no other good reason than that I like to, every so often, toss a little sand in the gears. I’ve got nothing worth hiding that I know of, but emails were made to be private substitutes for letter mail and that distinction has been utterly lost.

What fun is there in sending my wife an “I love you” email if every Dick & Jane between here and wherever Google keeps our emails can read it as readily as she can? Click here to read on, my friend.

Tired of high gas prices yet? Tired of high gas prices yet?

My GEO Metro (Chevy / Suzuki) got 52 mpg out of the box and ran fast enough to get a speeding ticket on any road in America and all but one in Europe. Later, with about 100,000 miles on it, it still got roughly 40 on the highway and 32 in the city.

So why can’t I buy one today? Click here to read on, my friend.
