A clear win for Linux A clear win for Linux

HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 Premier A909nI just bought a ‘glow-in-the-dark’ printer from HP … their “OfficeJet Pro 8500 Premier A909n” model … a classic case of overkill for the home office if ever there was one. All it’s missing are heavy chrome bumpers.

With the second (included) paper tray under it, the HP is so tall I had to lower my bookcase to fit it under some shelves. It easily dwarves my Brother MFC-440CN. Brother MFC-440CN

I knew that it would come with installation software for Windows … everything does because Windows ships with next-to-no drivers. Besides, it said so on the outside of the box (it also said that it would come with a power cord … but they were just teasing about that part. I got the transformer – but not the part that plugs into the wall).

What I didn’t expect was that the Windows software provided by HP would not work as well as the installation routines that come inside of every Ubuntu box, er, free download. I’m not certain where the logic came from to install this printer on Linux, but it rocks.

African-Americans lagging African-Americans lagging

(September 27, 2009) – WASHINGTON – Despite predictions, experts said African-Americans were roadkill on the information highway, missing out on most of the economic opportunities in that revolution as they did with many others. http://www.afro.com/tabId/551/itemId/4780/CBC-Urges-Blacks-to-Go-Green.aspx

True. Or not. How do you see things?

Oh … before you respond … don’t forget to follow the link and read the rest of the story – it’s not all doom & gloom.

Science fears religion Science fears religion

In a world increasingly ruled by science and technology, the benefits of having a scientifically literate voting population and workforce should be obvious. Furthermore, more important than teaching the current findings of science–what scientists currently think is true–is teaching how science works. Intelligent Design should not be taught as science in the public schools because it is not science. For example, ID cannot state its hypotheses in a way that can be tested by observation and proven false. (Italics added)

I was wandering around (unescorted) on the internet a few minutes ago and bumped into this gem. Moreover, I’m not so certain that this world is in any way, shape or form ruled by science and technology. It looks to me like it is ruled by men whose egos make them readily amenable to the suggestions of Satan.

But that is not what this post is about.
