The sin of humility The sin of humility

Humility among men, it seems, is generally most highly valued among those of modest accomplishment.

But is this idea scripturally sound? Click here to read on, my friend.

Quote Friday Continueth Quote Friday Continueth

Just a reminder that “Quote Friday” got its proper attention at its due time every week this month. The most recent quote posted is below. You might want to slip on over to the full page to see the rest.

February 26:

Death had to take him in his sleep, for if he was awake there’d have been a fight. – Woodrow Wilson, speaking of Teddy Roosevelt

Where I come from, geographically and morally, we still speak of a man has “standing up on his hind legs” … a reference to the rearing up that a stallion will do when entering conflict. To embrace conflict as a matter of common course is, undeniably, wrong. But so is avoiding conflict when it should be engaged in. And yes, there are times when conflict should be entered into.

Love is like a river that runs both ways Love is like a river that runs both ways

Look at the final comment on the linked page. Christian love is universal. Anything less is something else.

Miep Gies dies Miep Gies dies

While the world holds its breath for Clintons’ stents and worries about whether it will rain instead of snow for the winter Olympics in Vancouver, a true heroine passed away on Monday.

She was a quiet sort of woman. All she did that was exceptional was hand the Nazi’s a daily defeat. What she did took extraordinary courage.

Miep Gies would have been 101 next month. You probably don’t know her by name, but she and four other co-conspirators hid Otto Frank and his family from the Nazi’s.

Two of those co-conspirators were identified and captured by the Nazi’s.

You might not remember Otto Frank and that’s okay; he survived the war.

But perhaps you’ve heard of his daughter, Anne.

An evil plugin was here An evil plugin was here

And now it is gone. Its purpose was to replace naughty words with asterisks … but, finding no naughty words, it seems to have amused itself by deleting the entire body of some recent comments.

Actually, the mess-up is probably the result of updating the version of Wordpress but continuing to use the older version of the plugin. In either case, comments seem to be working now.

If you posted a comment and the body of it disappeared, please feel free to re-post. I’ve dealt with the plugin, but the body of your comments appear to have evaporated and I can’t recover them. — Bill

I am working on a new blog of interest solely to Jehovah’s Witnesses and, if you are a JW, I am asking for your help with it.

reBlog from faxnrelax.com: Fax and Relax reBlog from faxnrelax.com: Fax and Relax

I found this fascinating quote today:

Like most of us, she enrolled in college to earn a degree — and it certainly was not a degree in page formatting.faxnrelax.com, Fax and Relax

You should read the whole article.

I was playing around with Zemanta today. This is the result when I was viewing another of my blogs. That word, ’should’, has got to go because it is both irrational and irritating, but, like Photo Shop, the idea basically looks as if it might have legs: if I can learn how to use it before getting so irritated that I un-install it completely. And, while I’ve never deleted a copy of Photo Shop (probably because I’ve never owned one) I’ve certainly trashed a paid-for copy of Corel Draw.

When business is slow, why not play? When business is slow, why not play?

Right now you can fly from Detroit to Aruba (1 stop in Charlotte, NC) on US Air for about $475, round trip per person and stay in an apartment in Aruba for about the price of a modest motel room in Toledo, Oh. Get hold of Stanley Kemp at A1 Apartments in Aruba (his web site does not reflect the 14 units he recently added) and demand that he find you a good room at a good price … and no more than walking distance from the casinos, dining and ocean, please. As one of the last few people in the world with enough money to take a vacation (lots of people have plenty of time), it’s your right to enjoy every minute of all 336 hours in a two week vacation!

So go have some fun, eh?

African-Americans lagging African-Americans lagging

(September 27, 2009) – WASHINGTON – Despite predictions, experts said African-Americans were roadkill on the information highway, missing out on most of the economic opportunities in that revolution as they did with many others. http://www.afro.com/tabId/551/itemId/4780/CBC-Urges-Blacks-to-Go-Green.aspx

True. Or not. How do you see things?

Oh … before you respond … don’t forget to follow the link and read the rest of the story – it’s not all doom & gloom.

Catholic Church takes firm action (almost) Catholic Church takes firm action (almost)

This article, from the LA Times, says that the Catholics are considering excommunicating Mexican drug dealers.

http://www.latimes.com/la-fg-vatican-mexico13-2009jan13,0,6338435.story

This might work if it became automatic at the first hint of involvement with the drug trade, if the Catholic Church continues to have relevancy to the individuals getting involved and if the excommunication took the form of ‘shunning’ as practiced by fundamentalist Protestant religions such as Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Mennonites.
